As We Love Local! continues in Alex, First National Bank and their customers supported Alex Florist on Tuesday, June 24.
Bankers handed out 10 coupons worth $10 each for use in the florist shop. Not only does the florist specialize in floral arrangements and house plants but also offers house décor, candles, dip mixes and soaps.
Jackie Ledford owns and operates the shop with the help of her two daughters, Kim and Kristi. Ledford grew up in Alex and graduated from the local high school. She has farmed in the area and for a time hired out to paint store windows for town events.
“She makes amazing bouquets for brides,” Bank Manager Holly Otey said. “Alex Florist has a lot of beautiful things and they do an excellent job taking care of large events like weddings and funerals in addition to the other items available in the shop.”
The business is on Main Street across from the bank. Ledford purchased the store ten years ago after having worked for the previous owner.
The extra $100 in sales is First National’s way of encouraging and supporting local businesses during the recovery from COVID-19’s economic impact.
Coupons sponsored by First National in support of We Love Local were used to purchase a bird feeder, floral arrangements, hand lotion, hand soap and candles in Alex Florist owned by Jackie Ledford.

When lunch rolled around on Tuesday, June 23, several First National Bankers were ordering food at BJ’s in Chickasha in honor of We Love Local. Some like Kennith Nash ordered carry-out while others like Sharon Bowman, Michele Sikes and Ann Manchester enjoyed the service and atmosphere of dining in.
BJ’s owners Alberto Flores and San Juana de Avila opened the restaurant in 2009 as a Pizza shop but expanded it three years later into a restaurant which could serve more customers and with a wider menu. The restaurant now serves sandwiches, nachos, salads and dinner entrees along with the original pizza menu.
Everyone has a favorite menu item that they recommend. Noah Elkins especially likes the pizza cone which he describes as “crazy good” and Chandra Voegeli orders their fajitas most of the time.
“This is definitely a gem and the place for many future lunches,” said one critique on yelp.com. Another described the Rock Island pizza as “freaking amazing.”
During COVID-19 the restaurant had to close for several weeks relying heavily on carry-out orders to maintain the business. Like many other eateries, this took a toll.
Each week First National provides 15 coupons worth $10 each to be used to boost the economy of one of the bank’s business customers.

Bankers from First National Bank in SW OKC featured the Subway at 8025 SW 36th as their We Love Local business customer on Thursday, June 18.
Twenty coupons for $10 each were handed out in advance to bank customers and bankers to use for lunch at the Subway. Deb Odom, store owner, put the We Love Local sticker on the restaurant door to commemorate the event.
Many of our local eateries had to limit their food services to carry out and many citizens weren’t comfortable eating at restaurants at all during the pandemic so a lot of revenue was lost. First National is focused on helping local businesses get back on their feet.
Half of the bank team had lunch at 11:00 and the others at noon. Although Subway has a variety of salad choices, they all chose sandwiches … with cookies! Everybody has their favorite: David Hurst, lender, loves the guacamole wraps; Erin Manuel and Jesus Andrade agree on the Chicken Bacon Ranch on flatbread; Stephanie Branscum, Kurstin Fullerton, Amanda Najera and Ashley Raney believe the Italian Herb and Cheese bread is best for any sandwich.
The bankers had a few more coupons to share with FNBT customers who came in while they were having lunch.
The bank is located on 8504 SW 59th just outside the Mustang city limits.
